PROW Week 7 - My PROW Journal

PROW Week 7

Today everyone was supposed to be at studio 9am sharp, but majority was not there as there is Bali Trip Briefing going on at 9am.
When everyone came back from the Bali briefing, the recording room was already set up.

Initially, we were supposed to record vocals. Even though Bo had already sang for his song. Tim felt that Bo's vocals doesn't really suit his own song. He would like a female vocals instead. So he had requested YingHui to sing for Bo's song. Tim told YingHui that he would be giving the lyrics to her today and that we would record her in the morning.

However, YingHui and Bo both feels that YingHui isn't the right person to sing this song. In the sense that, YingHui's vocals doesn't really suit Bo's song. I would agree to a certain extent actually. It's just a bit 'off'. The whole vibe of the song just doesn't match with YingHui.
Without wasting any precious time, we decided to record Bass first using amp. So we mic up the amps again, using Bo's technic, placing the amp on the piano chair. While carrying the amp on to the piano chair, Vanessa and I was casually joking about 'Bo method', how he always like moving the amp up on to the chair. At first I thought that it is because our studio do not really have much short mic stand, that's why placing the amp on the piano chair will make our life a lot easier. As we were joking about it, Troy spoke up. He mention that by placing the amp on the piano chair, there are difference in the sound pick up by the microphone, and that maybe Bo preferred that sound more. But I certainly can't tell the difference though. But my ear wasn't as good to begin with. HAHAHA. It's interesting though. Maybe its something to do with like physics or science. Like acoustical science. Like by placing the amp on the piano chair, the amp would be much nearer to the ceiling, the that the sound reflected by the floor and the ceiling would be evenly picked up by the room mics. It actually make sense. HAHAHA.
The bass recording session went quite smoothly. In my opinion. We did a pretty fast job. Setting up, going straight into recording and all. HEHE. We even took some crazy photos.
Crazy People. HAHAHAHA xD

After that, everyone went for lunch break! FOOD :B
After lunch break, everyone gathered in T2044, as we got this ITP briefing thing that's compulsory. Both briefing took out quite a lot of our time. That's why I really think we are working at a decent speed. We manage to finish quite a few stuff. By the briefing, everyone was already talking about how we should use Mabel's vocals instead. Both YingHui and I feel that Mabel's vox would suit that kind of song. I don't know what kind of genre that is, but it sounded like punk to me. But they all said that no it wasn't punk. HAHAHAH But ya Mabel's vocal timbre does fit the song a lot better, as compared to YingHui.
After the ITP Briefing, we went back to the studio to record Guitar parts. While Bo was recording the guitar part, Soo Chee was on the desk controlling and recording Bo. After that, she change with Mabel, to record and supervise in recording Bo.
While Mabel was doing that, everyone was just doing our own stuff. Working on our own songs.
Or like help out each other by giving opinions on their songs. After we are done recording Bo's guitar part. We moved on to record vocals. Mabel agreed in lending her voice to Bo's song. :) We recorded for awhile, but Mabel's throat wasn't in a very good condition that day. She tried really hard, and even stayed back for awhile, despite having Korean test. But having Mabel to sing Bo's song was a great choice though. She fits in to the song perfectly. It's just really nice. Like for Bo, you can tell that it's a male voice, but there's certain feminine trait to it. Likewise, for Mabel too, its a female voice, but there's masculine trait to it. And when the voice come together, it's just really nice. Especially along with the lyrics. "Not in Loveeeeeeee"

Its really nice. It kind of change my view on the song. HAHAHAAH. Now it seems more like the couple fought, and they are at the breach of breaking up. The pain was too much to handle, that they had stopped fighting for one another and for their relationship. They still care for each other but they decided to give up the relationship. So the line is both of them trying to deceive themselves. Its pretty sad, still. So that's like a summary of what we've done for week 7.
